Scout Sunday

… Duty to God …
A Scout is reverent …

Boy Scouts of America designates the first Sunday on or before February 8th as Scout Sunday (or Scout Sabbath).  In 2014, that day falls on February 2nd.  Note that the United Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church usually celebrate on the second Sunday of the month to avoid conflict with Transfiguration Sunday.

So what’s the point? It marks the founding of Scouts in the US.  Scouts and Scouters usually wear their class A uniforms to their place of worship.  It’s best to check with your worship leader to determine if a day is already set aside for this activity, as mentioned above.  Scout Sunday is an awesome opportunity for congregations to honor Scouts and Scouters, as well as to learn more themselves about the value of Scouting as a youth program.
