The Juniata Valley Council has scheduled its annual Council-wide First Aid Meet for Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Seven Mountains Scout Camp Dining Hall. Check-in for the event will open at 8:30 am with opening ceremonies and first aid scenario competition beginning promptly at 9:00 am and ending around noon. This event will feature Patrol competition with first aid scenarios that are based on Boy Scout first aid protocols as found in the Boy Scout Handbook and First Aid merit badge book. Team trophies will be awarded to the top 3 patrols. Student leaders from Penn State’s chapter of Alpha Phi Omega are providing volunteer leadership for the event.
Scouts will receive a collectable, custom-embroidered event patch and each Patrol will receive a participation ribbon.
EQUIPMENT: Troops and Venture Crews should bring first aid supplies to this competition so the Scouts will be able to ‘mock’ apply bandages, slings and make emergency stretchers. Each unit should also bring a heavy blanket. Scouts may wish to bring their lunch to the event to eat before departure.
DRESS: Competition will occur indoors in the dining hall facility. Scouts will be expected to be dressed in Boy Scout uniforms. Late in the morning, the Scouts will be treated to a demonstration that will last about 20 minutes and is scheduled to be outdoors – so appropriate dress for the weather is recommended
